I am playing catch up...again since we have been gone, or busy around the house for nearly the past month. We visited Paul and Jodi at the end of April, and this time John was able to come with us. There is never a shortage of things to do while in Alexandria, but one of things I've never done is to visit Mount Vernon. John, Elise, Jodi and I took in the estate, and as a first time visitor, I was impressed with the expanse of the estate and the prime location right off the Potomac river.

Yes, that would be me with the headphones - I was a tourist after all. Interestingly, the home was built out of wood, but George Washington had it painted, then had sand thrown on the wet paint to simulate stone, or stucco, giving the impression of more wealth.
Elise was a great little tourist, too. They had some animals to visit and walking on the stone drainage along the pathway was a big thrill, too.
We always eat very well when we visit Paul and Jodi. One evening we had pizza on the grill & it was delicious! Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs, and we had so much left over.
We played tourists again, and went on a Potomac river tour. It was a very hot day, but the little breezes were nice. It was wonderful to see the monuments from another view - the river.
By the end of our round-trip from Old Town to Georgetown, Elise was tuckered out and ready for a nap.
Jodi also had some 3-D sidewalk chalk for Elise....or maybe John and Paul, too. It was so much fun.
Bailey even got in on some of the chalk-time. Elise outlined her and each paw.

John had planned to go to the waterpark, so they each sported their suits, but he didn't realize that the water section doesn't open until Memorial weekend. They had fun anyway...and discovered that Elise can ride on the scrambler...she loved it!
The balloon ride is also another favorite.
We had to take several pictures as we took it apart...to try to remember how to put it back together. I found some great outdoor fabric at Walmart for less than $3/yard...who knew they sold that there? So for a few cans of spray paint for the metal frame, and a couple yards of fabric to make the seat and canopy - we now have a great little swing for Elise in the backyard...and she can swing with her friends, too.

This year we planted 3 tomato plants, 2 cucumber plants, zucchini, sweet basil, cilantro & fresh dill. As I am writing this post nearly a month after planting, we have already harvested our herbs & can see 2 zucchini starting on our plant. We are excited for all the fresh produce.
